Love is Not a Mystery.
Love is something we long for from the moment we are born.
It’s innate. To be held, and feel held.
To know you are wanted, without having to meet expectation. Organic in its purest form, love is the most powerful medicine, feeling, accelerator, and comforter.
It transcends reason. It creates gaps in our cognitive processes. We find ourselves looking into our past, and replaying all our faults. All our shortcomings, and the ways we feel we failed those around us. Those we loved before, that went a different way. We replay all these moments, to try to figure out how, despite all our trespasses, we can still be wanted.
It simply doesn’t make sense.
Forgiveness is laced in its DNA — “It doesn’t make sense, why do you still want to be with me?”
Passion as well — “I’ve never felt the way I feel when I see you.”
Loyalty throughout — “There is nothing you could do to make me stop loving you.”
Love is not beholden to romantic partnership. It permeates through every being and connection. When you hug your nephew. When you get lost in desert sky and it’s billions of stars. When you place your hand on the casket and say goodbye.
It exist within oneself. It is vital to our own survival, loving who we are. Giving ourselves comfort and forgiveness. Being loyal to our growth and individuality.
“I am worth it.”
“Yeah, it’s been a week, I’m having pancakes and waffles. BOTH.”
“Golden girls and Scotch? I deserve it.”
“I got hurt. It’s ok for me to be angry. It’s ok for me to be sad. It’s ok for me to move on.”
“I love that I love the way I do, and who I love the way I do.”
Love is not a mystery. It’s the most explainable element in existence.
The mystery is in how it presents itself, and, in how we decide to receive it.
Because we all deserve to receive it.
From the desert sky.
A nephews embrace.
A first kiss, or the second, or the last.
In the memory of one who has passed.
“Love and you are a success, whether the world thinks so or not.” — William Sloane Coffin
Today, may you see the love that is all around you.
May you allow yourself to see that it is for you.
That you, in your nature, deserve to be loved in a multitude of ways.
